kb8010301 - Security Warning when opening Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Word
|
|
Symptoms
Since the installation of Macroscope, there is a security warning window that appears when I start Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Word.

Cause
Resolution
1. Changing the location of installed Macroscope macros
The macro installation program probably copied your macro within your office installation folder and according to your security level, Word or Outlook will prompt you every time it starts. To work around this issue, proceed as follows:
- Start Word.
- Click on the Tools menu and select Options.
- Select the File Locations tab.
- In the File locations box, you will find the "Startup" item, it indicates the folder location where to store your Word macros in order for them to be considered as trusted. Usually this folder looks like C:\Document and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP.
Note1: [username] represents your username.
Note2: Please, take note of the folder as it will be used later as the target folder.
Note3: In Windows Vista, locate the folder C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP. - Close Word.
- Close Outlook.
Now that you know where to copy the macros, you will have to move the OfficeMacroscopeAddins.dot to this new location. The Macroscope Macro setup usually stores the macro in the following folder:
- C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Startup
Note: This path is for the default location.
If you are unsure where to find you Word installation folder, you can look into the Word path registry.
-
Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
-
Locate and then click the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\Winword.exe -
In the right pane, locate the registry string "Path"; it will contain your Word installation folder.
Note: Take note of this folder and add "\Startup" at the end of it. -
Exit Registry Editor.
Take the OfficeMacroscopeAddins.dot from the location you just found (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Startup) and move it to "C:\Document and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Microsoft\Startup".
2. Reducing the security level
Warning: The Macroscope Team highly suggests that you change the location of your installed Word macros instead of reducing the security level.
- Close Outlook.
- Start Word.
- Click on the Tools menu and select Macro\Security.
- Set the security level to Low and click OK.
- Close Word.
If Outlook keeps warning you about OfficeMacroscopeAddins,
you will
have to restart you computer since Outlook keeps
a hidden copy of Word in memory.
